1:1 Mentoring Programs

A series of 1:1 programs tailored to address common photography challenges, whether you’re brand new to photography or already established in business and looking to improve.

Discover your camera

Perfect for the beginning photographer, Discover Your Camera will walk you through the essentials of using your camera. During the morning we’ll discover:

  • Understanding exposure

  • Using the different camera modes

  • Depth of field

  • Shutter speed and ISO

  • Getting to manual

In the afternoon, we’ll spend a few hours putting the theories into practice, either in the studio or on a photo-walk around the Willoughby area.

Lunch is included.

Off-camera lighting

Light is light, but knowing how to use it is a skill. This all-day lighting intensive will give you hands-on experience of using light, light modifiers, and reflectors. During the day you’ll get hands-on experience with:

  • 1 light, 2 light, and 3 light setups

  • Using umbrellas, softboxes, and reflectors.

  • Flags and V-flats

  • Metering light and lighting ratios

  • Broad, short, and Rembrandt - recognizing and creating lighting patterns

  • High key and low key lighting

Lunch is included.

Portfolio Review

Artists! We’re the worst at evaluating our own work. If you’re wondering what your strengths and weaknesses are, or what to work on next, bring a curated selection of no more than 15 images and we’ll review what works, what doesn’t, and where you can improve.

Improve your work

Following on from the portfolio review, we’ll create a series of development exercises to help you stretch and improve your photography over a period of 3 months. You’ll receive an assignment every other week and we’ll talk about how you approach it, what you learned, and what you can do to take it to the next level.
